Hi! My name is Abby Smith and I will be serving with YWAM Malang in their children’s home ministry, ABBA!

ABBA is a ministry run out of YWAM Malang that houses and cares for 28 children currently. This ministry helps children coming from various at-risk situations find their identity and purpose in God while being cared for in a safe, loving environment. The staff team I am joining consists of several full-time volunteers that work hard to provide a healthy family environment for the children to thrive in. I plan to join the ABBA team as a part time staff in March 2024 for my first year as I will also be attending a language school in Malang. After my year of learning Indonesian I plan to move into a full time staff position.

YWAM (Youth With A Mission) is a missions organization dedicated to discipling believers and fulfilling the great commission. Their mission statement is "Know God and make God known". YWAM Malang partners with this vision through discipling the children in ABBA and through running a single mother’s home where vulnerable women are given support and shown the love of God.  

God has placed a desire on my heart to work with at risk children since I was just a child myself. Through the years I have seen Him be faithful to grow and guide that desire. My main responsibilities in ABBA will be transporting children to and from school, cooking meals, teaching English classes, and coming alongside the children as a mentor. I will also be intentionally learning from the ministry leaders as we explore the possibility of sending me with a pioneering team to start a new children’s home on another island in Indonesia!
