My name is Kayla Barua and my husband Selby and I are missionaries with YWAM Kona. As many of you know I started with YWAM in 2018 when I did a discipleship training school (DTS). I met Selby when I was on my outreach in Papua New Guinea and we began dating shortly after I left Papua New Guinea. In 2019, I went back to Kona to lead a DTS as a staff member and led an outreach team to Brazil.

Selby started with YWAM in Papua New Guinea in 2016. He led outreach teams all across Papua New Guinea as a translator and guide. In 2018, Selby did a DTS in Kona and did his outreach in the Himalayas. Then he returned to Papua New Guinea to continue leading teams for YWAM.

Before Selby and I even met, God had spoken to us separately about being long-term missionaries in the Himalayas. So when we started dating, we began to talk and dream about being missionaries in the Himalayas together. We have a heart to see God move in the nations and see lives transformed by the Gospel. We got married last year and have been planning on how and when we should launch into full-time missions.

In the midst of all the craziness of 2020 and many health issues for both of us, we started asking God what the next step for us as missionaries and as a married couple should be. We both felt like God was inviting us to go even deeper with Him and strength our foundation before we go into the nations. So Selby and I are returning to Kona, HI to do a 9-month school called The Foundations of Revival and Reformation. This school will teach us inductive bible study, Biblical worldview, and learning how to effectively communicate spiritual revelations and scripture to impact the world around us. Our long term goal is to be in the nations, but we believe God wants to give us a few more tools for our tool belts before we are commissioned out.

We are eager and excited to start this new adventure with God together. We can’t wait to see how God will move and to share it with you. But we can’t get there without your help. Would you consider partnering with us financially and prayerfully? We want to invite you to sow into what God is doing in and through our lives. Please join us in prayer as we make the move back to Kona and step into what God has called us to do. We are so thankful for each and every one of you.

Blessings, Selby and Kayla Barua
